Reconnaissance Research today
announced that prominent Canadian scholar Dr. CHARLES BURTON will join the
center as the first Non-Resident China Affairs Expert in its newly-established
China Affairs Desk.
Dr. BURTON is a Senior Fellow at the Macdonald-Laurier
Institute, Centre for Advancing Canada’s Interests Abroad and Non-Resident
Senior Fellow at the European Values Center for Security Policy. He is
specialized in Comparative Politics, Government and Politics of China,
Canada-China Relations and Human Rights.
Dr. Burton has over 40 years of experience on Chinese and North
Korean affairs. He served as Counsellor at the Canadian Embassy to China
between 1991-1993 and 1998-2000, and he also worked at the Canadian Department
of National Defence.
“Dr. Burton is highly regarded as a leading expert on Chinese
affairs, known for his pragmatic approach and deep knowledge,” said Abdulaziz

experience will strengthen both our local and international reach, as we

Dr. Burton has studied at Cambridge University majoring in
(Oriental Studies), Fudan University majoring in (History of Ancient Chinese
Thought Program). He was an Izaak Walton Killam Memorial Post-Doctoral
Scholar in Political Science at University of Alberta, 1986 and received his
PhD in 1987 from the University of Toronto.

ويتمتع د.بيرتون بخبرة تزيد على 40 عاما في الشؤون الصينية والكورية الشمالية، وشغل منصب مستشار في السفارة الكندية في الصين بين عامي 1991-1993 و1998-2000، وعمل أيضا في وزارة الدفاع الوطني الكندية.

من جهته، قال د.بيرتون «يسعدني أن أكون قادرا على العمل مع مركز ريكونسنس للمساهمة الإيجابية معهم في توفير النقاشات القائمة على الحقائق حول أنشطة الصين العالمية، آملا أن يساعد عملنا مع المركز المهتمين في الكويت والخليج على فهم تداعيات التوسع الاقتصادي والسياسي الصيني، وشرح نفوذ القوة الناعمة للصين في جميع أنحاء العالم بشكل أفضل».
يذكر أن د.بيرتون درس في جامعة كامبريدج تخصص الدراسات الشرقية، وجامعة فودان وتخصص في برنامج تاريخ الفكر الصيني القديم، وكان باحثا لما بعد الدكتوراه في العلوم السياسية من جامعة ألبرتا، وحصل على الدكتوراه عام 1987 من جامعة تورنتو.
