Reconnaissance Research hosted a “virtual dewaniya” featuring H.E. Alina L. Romanowski, the U.S. Ambassador to Kuwait. With roughly forty attendees, whose backgrounds ranged from business to academia to politics, the event served as an opportunity to continue discourse over a variety of issues that have been facing the country prior to and during quarantine.
These issues, including the future of education, the quest for economic diversification, and the political situation and upcoming November elections, have taken on new dimensions since the outbreak of the global coronavirus pandemic, emphasizing the importance of maintaining dialogue.
The event and spirited discussion provided an opportunity for Kuwaitis to share their views with Ambassador Romanowski and to each other, and for them to from her about current on U.S. regional policy issues during the Covid-19 crisis and quarantine in Kuwait.
Ambassador Romanowski assumed her post as Ambassador of the United States of America to the State of Kuwait on February 11, 2020 after being sworn in on January 6, 2020. Prior to her appointment, she served as the Department of State’s Principal Deputy Coordinator for Counterterrorism (2016-2020), where she oversaw the coordination and integration of U.S. counterterrorism policy objectives and developed and implemented U.S. counterterrorism assistance and capacity-building programs with key U.S. partners. During almost 40 years of service across various U.S government agencies, Ambassador Romanowski has become an expert on Middle East affairs.
